Industry Spotlight: Laboratory Grown Diamonds (“LGD”)

Providing Solutions from Mine to Market

AMTECH provides world-class consultancy services to a mix of clients from entrepreneurs to established participants in sectors such as cutting and polishing of Earth Mined Diamonds (“EMD”) who are looking to transition to LGD, recognising the market’s significant growth potential.

Our team’s unique capabilities and expertise offer specialised advice on how to best capitalise on the phenomenal growth that has been seen and is further predicted to take place in the LGD sector over the next 30 years.

The history of the traditional diamond industry, or EMD, has been wracked with exploitation and a legacy of environmental damage. The EMD industry is also having to come to terms with the fact that supplies of EMD are depleting rapidly and it is widely expected that by 2050 there will be no more viable EMD sources left to discover and that the jewellery, industrial and technological requirements for diamonds will only be met by increasing production of LGD.

Laboratory Grown Diamonds align with the values of the 21st Century consumer:

  • Guaranteed conflict free
  • Eco-Friendly
  • Excellent value
  • Assured origin
  • The ethical choice
  • “A diamond is a diamond”: the 2018 ruling by the Federal Trade Commission of the United States declared that whether a diamond is found in the earth or grown in a laboratory, it is a diamond, thus removing the reference to “synthetic” vs “natural” gems.
  • LGDs are today certified by the same authorities which grade EDM. This has further boosted the demand.

AMTECH believes that there is a significant first–mover advantage to be had by investors seeking to establish world class LGD manufacturing facilities at this time, in anticipation of a significant paradigms shift in the diamond industry. This has been recognised by both China and India who have both announced plans to establish world-leading vertically integrated LGD industries national goals.
